Panthers lose match against Wayne State 3-0 despite multiple close sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport fell to the top ranked team in the South Division of the GLIAC 3-0. Wayne State won a couple cutch points towards the end of sets two and three that made the difference. The Panthers were un-able to make a comeback today like they did yesterday against Grand Valley State. Davenport still remains in second place in the South Division of the GLIAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-SET SCORES: 19-25, 26-28, 24-26
-Wayne State came out in the opening set hitting the ball extremely well. The Warriors had 10 kills through 24 points of play. Wayne State took a 17-7 lead before Davenport started mounting a comeback. The Panthers scored eight out of the following 11 points to cut the lead to 15-20. The Warriors took a timeout and finished off the game scoring four out of the next six points for a 25-19 win.
-Davenport turned it around to start the second set, taking an early 6-2 lead after a solo block by Ashley VanderHorst. The Warriors went on a run of their own to take an 8-7 lead. The teams battled back and forth, alternating leads all the way till the end. The game was tied 26 all and Wayne State got lucky as Davenport had back to back errors to give the Warriors the win in the second set.
-The Warriors continued their momentum from the previous two set wins into the third set, taking an 11-6 lead. A five point run by DU, capped off by a Krissy Dill kill, erased the lead and tied the set at 11-11. Late in the set Davenport had a 24-23 lead and a chance to win the set. The Warriors won the following point to tie it up 24-24 and won the next two to win the match.
-Dill led in kills with 15, Kasey Stehouwer had one service ace, Jessica Marvin had 8 total blocks, Sydney Tracer recorded 32 assists and Stehouwer also led in digs with 30.

The next match for Davenport will be played in Ohio against Ashland University. The game will be played in Friday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m.
