ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Despite wacky weather down in Missouri, Davenport was able to play their first game of the 2018 season. The Panthers played Kentucky Wesleyan, who is an NCAA Division II school down in Kentucky, and defeated them 3-1.
Mallory Teunissen started where she left off from last season, throwing strikes and winning games. Davenport saw offensive production from one of their new members on the team,
Rylie Kalina, who had two RBI's on the day. The Panthers are now 8-2 in season opening games.

Kentucky Wesleyan scored the first run of the game during the top of the first inning. Davenport saw their first runner on base in the bottom of the third inning when Crawford singled through the right side. She proceeded to steal second and then advance to third after
Madison Jewell grounded out. The next two batters couldn't drive Crawford home and she was left on base. The Panthers earned their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Pauley got on base with a bunt to lead off in the inning, two batters later she advanced to second off a ground out from Griffin. Pauley then stole third and Kalina singled to right center to score Pauley from third. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the top of the fifth. Davenport scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to put major pressure on Kentucky Wesleyan. French scored the game winning run off a Kalina single to left field, also on the play
Jorden Urban advanced to second and Pauley advanced to third.
Bethany Teunissen subbed in as catcher for
Alexis Koza and stepped up to the plate and hit a sac fly to left field to score Pauley from third.
Mallory Teunissen finished the game by retiring three straight batters with two ground outs and a pop up in the top of the seventh.
