Panthers split 1-1 during last day in Missouri

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Panthers were able to follow through on their original schedule for the day after the weather finally cooperated. Davenport took on the host team Lindenwood University in their first game at 10 a.m. CT. The Lions snuck a victory from Davenport by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Panthers came back in the second game, this one against Kentucky Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m. CT, defeating them 6-3. Freshman Ellie Muilenburg earned her first collegiate victory against Kentucky Wesleyan.

Davenport found themselves leading the Lions early in the game. Koza drove in the first run of the game. She hit a triple to right center and Kennedy Crawford scored from first base. The next batter was Jewell and she singled up the middle to send Koza home for the second run of the second inning. Davenport added their third run during the third inning when Griffin singled to the pitcher and Flores scored from second base. Teunissen allowed only one hit during the first three innings. Lindenwood tied the game during inning five by scoring two runs. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the seventh inning. Jewell was first up to the plate in the top of the seventh and absolutely smashed a home run over the center field fence to give Davenport a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the victory.

The Panthers found the roles reversed in the second game of the day against Kentucky Wesleyan. Davenport trailed by two runs after the completion of two innings. Flores came through with a two RBI triple down the right field line in the third inning to tie the game 2-2. Both Pauley and Crawford scored on the play. Davenport scored another two runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Jorden Urban scored the first run of the inning off a single from French to left field. Jewell scored the next run off a fielder's choice by Kentucky Wesleyan. In the sixth inning Kentucky Wesleyan scored a run off a double to cut the Panthers lead down to one run heading into the final inning. Flores and Allen came up with two clutch hits to give DU a three-run cushion going into the bottom of the seventh. Flores was the second batter in the inning for DU and she sent a home run down the right field line. Kalina was the next batter and she got walked, bringing up Allen to the plate. Allen drilled a triple to right center and scored Kelli Nyenhuis, who pinch ran for Kalina, from first base. Muilenburg faced six batters in the bottom of the seventh inning, but didn't allow any runs.

Up Next
The next time Davenport will be in action is next week down in Clermont, Florida for the NTC Spring Games. The Panthers open with a doubleheader against American International College on Saturday morning.
