CLERMONT, Fla. – The Panthers played two games for the third straight day at the NTC Spring Games. Davenport took on Kentucky Wesleyan at 10:30 a.m. and then Gannon University at 1:00 p.m. The game against Kentucky Wesleyan needed extra innings to determine a winner, and Davenport fell short by one run. The Panthers bounced back in their second game of the day, defeating the Golden Knights of Gannon University 6-4.

Davenport opened the game in the top of the first scoring one run and taking an early lead. With French on third base, Kalina hit a foul ball to right field and French tagged up on the play and ran home. Kentucky Wesleyan scored two runs in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead over DU. Both teams were scoreless during innings three through five. Davenport exploded with three runs in the top of the sixth. The three run scorers for DU were Urban, Flores, and Allen. Kentucky Wesleyan scored two runs to force extra innings, then scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Panthers scored all their runs in a two-inning stretch. Davenport knocked in three runs in the third and fourth inning. Flores was a part of all three runs in the third inning. With
McKenzie Rowe on first base and Pauley on second and one out, Flores stepped up to the plate. She hit a double to left center and scored Rowe and Pauley. Next up to bat was Allen, who hit a single through the left side and scored Flores from second. Gannon scored four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Panthers tied the game, took the lead, and added a cushion run all in the bottom of the fourth. Hutchison scored the tying run off a single by Pauley to right field. With Pauley on first Kaline subbed back in the game to center field for Rowe. Kalina singled to right center and Pauley scored all the way from first for what would eventually be the game-winning run. Davenport added a cushion run later on in the inning when Griffin was walked, advancing Kalina from third home. Teunissen came in during the fourth inning to take over pitching and went nearly flawless in 3.1 innings. She gave up only one hit and struck out four to earn her fourth win of the season.

The Panthers get a day to relax and enjoy the weather down in Florida before playing another four games in two days. Davenport takes on Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) and Point Park (Pa.) on Wednesday.
