Panthers split doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Davenport remained in Kentucky another day to play a doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan, an opponent that Davenport is very familiar with. This was the fourth and fifth time that Davenport has taken on Kentucky Wesleyan so far this season. Davenport holds the overall advantage over them this season, winning three of the five games. The doubleheader today resulted in a split, Davenport won the first game 6-0 and then Kentucky Wesleyan won the second 6-2. Mallory Teunissen continues her phenomenal efforts on the mound, throwing her second straight one-hit game.

Teunissen continued her mastery on the mound with her second straight game only allowing one hit. She pitched all seven innings and only three Kentucky Wesleyan batters reached first base. Furthermore, no Kentucky Wesleyan runner even reached second base. In addition to the stellar pitching Madison Jewell and the rest of the DU batters made some noise on offense. Davenport scored six runs over the seven inning game, including a monster four runs in the top of the seventh. Three of the runs throughout the game were because of Jewell, who blasted two home runs in the game. She hit a solo shot during the top of the fourth to left center, and then a two run homer in the top of the seventh to left field.
