OZARK, Mo. – The Davenport baseball team dropped the series finale on Sunday (Mar. 18) at Drury by the final score of 8-1 and lost three of the four games over the weekend. DU (8-8) could not get the bats going scoring a season-low one run on eight base hits with three errors. Drury did their damage early with three runs in the first and four more in the third. Davenport scored their run in the first and then four pitchers shut them down for the final eight at-bats.
Austin Simms (3-2) got the victory on the mound for Drury allowing four hits and one earned run in six innings. He walked six and struck out five as Davenport left a total of 11 runners on base for the contest. Jaden Simmons, Ryan Wedermyer and Nick Costantino each threw one scoreless relief inning for the Panthers.
Cole Sanderson got his second start of the season and did not last long. He exited in the third inning having yielded three earned runs (seven total) and seven hits. He did walk one and struck out two falling to 0-1 this season.
Evan Maize had a superb 5.1 inning outing in relief allowing one run in the bottom of the eighth on just three hits with five strikeouts.
Austin Petravicius had DU's lone RBI in the first coming on a single to left scoring
Alex Huard. Huard doubled to start the contest.
Zac Wilson finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate and continues to lead the team with a .426 batting average. Huard was the other Panther with multiple hits going 2-for-4 with a walk.
Austin Lansky drew a pair of walks hitting in the ninth spot.
The Panthers will have their home opener on Tuesday, Mar. 20 as they play Hillsdale College in a nine-inning game set for 3 p.m. The two schools have never met before on the diamond.
