Davenport protects home court against Northwood in 3-0 sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport bounces back from their loss to Ferris State with poise to defeat Northwood 3-0. The Panthers wasted no time proving they were the better squad tonight. This is the fourth time this season that Davenport has won 3-0 over a GLIAC opponent. Davenport continued their strong presence at the net with their blockers, holding the Timberwolves to under.100 hitting percentage during the match. The Panthers had a very even offensive attack tonight with five different players recording five or more kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-SET SCORES: 25-23, 25-21, 25-13
-The first set was back and forth throughout the entire set. The score was tied at 3-3, 4-4, 10-10, 15-15, 19-19, 21-21, and 22-22. Davenport was clutch down the stretch, scoring six of the final eight points. The set winning point belonged to Hayley Kreiger on a kill, assisted by Sami White.
-Northwood hung with the Panthers in the second set, but Davenport was too much for the Timberwolves to handle. Davenport took a 16-11 lead after back-to-back attack errors by Northwood. With the score 19-16, in favor of DU, the Panthers scored five of the next seven points to pull away from the Timberwolves. During the stretch Davenport recorded four kills, one by Laura Bouwkamp, one by Kreiger, and two by Megan Herr. The Timberwolves had a service error on the final point of the set.
-The Panthers put the Timberwolves away early in the final set. Davenport built up a 9-1 lead, which included a service ace by Ashley VanderHorst. The next big run came towards the end of the set, Davenport scored five unanswered points to go up 22-10. Sarah Wendling recorded a kill during the run and VanderHorst added two more service aces. An attack error by the Timberwolves proved to be the final point of the match.

UP NEXT
Davenport is on the road for the next couple weeks. The Panthers will travel to Lake Superior State and Saginaw Valley State next weekend and then travel to Indianapolis, Ind. for the GLVC Crossover Tournament the following weekend.
