Panthers tie Notre Dame College 19-19

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - Davenport men's rugby had another cross conference game over the weekend. The team traveled to play Notre Dame College on Sunday afternoon. It was a physical affair from the outset with brutal defense being shown by both teams.

DU hit the scoreboard first in the 15th minute with a penalty conversion from Mat De Villiers to go up 3 - 0. A smart short side kick by De Villiers was regathered by Enrique Carmona. A nice pass from Carmona put Josh McAdams in the clear, McAdams was able to power his way over the line to take the score. De Villiers converted to take the score to 10 - 0.

No points were scored for the next 13 minutes of play, both teams went end-to-end with their attacking play, but the defense for both teams held well. A penalty kick in the 30th minute from De Villiers extended the lead to 13 - 0, which is where the scored stayed until the half. NDC came out with a renewed enthusiasm in the second half scoring first through their forwards to make it 13 - 7. De Villiers added another penalty conversion minutes later to make it 16 - 7. NDC with a slew of possession managed to wear down the DU defensive line to score two tries in ten minutes and take a 19-16 lead. DU needed to dig deep to find something special and after a tremendous defensive display were rewarded with a penalty with six minutes left on the clock. De Villiers nailed the pressure kick to lock the score up at 19 - 19. NDC and DU went blow-for-blow in the dying stages of the match with neither team able to add any more points.
