CALEDONIA, Mich. - The visiting Wayne State Warriors played a complete game and came away with a 34-0 victory over Davenport on the first Saturday of November. The Warriors started off with a onside kick attempt but the Warriors were penalized for kick catching interference. Davenport started the drive at the WSU 34-yard line. DU could not take advantage of the great field position and that set the tone for a tough day.
Wayne State opened the scoring on their second drive of the game. They drove 78 yards in six plays and Dakota Kupp completed a screen pass to Donte McClure who weaved his way 38 yards to the end zone with 4:00 left in the first quarter. After a three-and-out, the Warriors were in business again. This time it was a 50-yard drive that took five plays. James Hill took off around left end and tip-toed the sideline for a 32-yard touchdown run and a 14-0 lead with 48 seconds left in the opening quarter.
The Warriors would score on their third straight drive to begin the second quarter. WSU covered 61 yards in nine plays and took 4:52 off the clock. Kupp took a snap and looked to pass but found no one. He rolled to his right and raced into the end zone from three yards on third-and-goal for a 21-0 lead at the 9:55 mark. The halftime came and the score was still 21-0 in favor of the Warriors.
Wayne State scored the only points of the third quarter on a 70-yard drive that lasted nine plays. Deiontae Nicholas scored on a 29-yard touchdown run up the middle and broke several tackles along the way. The Warriors then concluded the scoring in the fourth quarter.
