UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Davenport was in Pennsylvania over the weekend for the Penn State 7's Tournament and played some great teams. The Panthers went 2-3 over the two-day tournament, with wins over Navy and Penn State JV. Davenport fell to Life University once and Penn State Varsity in a pair of games.
In game one on Saturday, DU fell to Life by a score of 33-0. In the second game, Davenport faced Penn State's Varsity team, falling by a score of 26-7.
Olivia Ortiz had the seven points for DU, scoring a try and making the conversion. The Panthers finished the day with a 19-0 victory over Navy. As time expired, Ortiz scored one try, also kicking two conversions, while
Megan Bird scored two tries.
The second day was changed up due to bad weather. Davenport was originally supposed to face Temple in game one, Penn State JV in game two, and then a placement game to determine the final outcome of the tournament. The schedule shifted and had DU facing Penn State Varsity in game one and Penn State JV in game two, with no placement game to end the day. In the game against Penn State Varsity the Panthers were one play away from winning.
Veronica Overbeek and Ortiz scored tries, while Ortiz had one conversion. In the 36-0 win against Penn State JV,
Bethany Gable had two tries, while
Mariah Pruitt, Bird, Overbeek, and Ortiz each had one try. Ortiz added two conversions and Gable kicked one to make the final score 36-0.
