Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panther Offense Catches Fire at Purdue Northwest

HAMMOND, Ind. - The Davenport University men's basketball team made quick work of Purdue Northwest on Saturday to sweep the season series and reached the century mark in points for just the second time ever in GLIAC play. Six players scored in double-figures for Davenport and the Panthers cruised to a 30-point win over the Pride, 101-71.

With the win, Davenport improved to 16-7 overall, 8-5 in GLIAC play and 6-2 in true-road games. On the other side, Purdue Northwest is now 7-15 on the season and 2-11 in league action.

Chris Rollins turned in arguably the best performance of his career with 17 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals, all of which led Davenport. Rollins didn't turn the ball over once in his 31 minutes played, which marked the first time in his career that he notched eight or more dimes without a single giveaway. Also scoring at least 10 points for the Panthers were Evan Hines (16), Robbie Bramhill (16), Tafari Beckford (14), Janeau Joubert (12), and Chris Pearl (10). The team's final 16 points came from Zach Pangborn (9), Alonzo Chatman (5) and Elijah Belle (2).

Davenport scored the game's first 18 points and over six and a half minutes elapsed before Purdue Northwest could get on the board. From there until the end of the game, the Panthers lead was never smaller than 12, 28-16, and grew to as large as 31 at 72-41 and 74-43. Davenport controlled an advantage of at least 20 from the 2:16 mark of the first half until the end of the game.

With 19 assists on Saturday after 17 at Parkside on Thursday, Davenport racked up 17 or more dimes in back-to-back games for the first time since November of last season. The Panthers made 33 of their 59 looks from the field (55.9 percent), which is the exact same number of makes and attempts they had against the Pride at home back in December. That mark of 55.9 percent for Davenport is its second best this season and the Panthers improved to 14-0 this season when they shoot at least 43 percent from the floor.

Next up, Davenport will host Ashland (12-9, 5-8 GLIAC) on Saturday with the opening tip set for 7:30 p.m. inside the DU Student Center. At Ashland on Jan. 11, the Panthers had no problem dispatching the Eagles and won by 13, 61-48.
