Bryant and Petre thrive in 19-1 win at Maryville

Jacob Buchberger went 4-for-4 at the plate and won his second on the mound

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The series finale at Maryville saw Davenport flex its muscle once again in a 19-1 win over the Saints. DU set season-highs for runs, hits and margin of victory and improved to 10-2 overall. The Panthers outscored the Saints, 51-10, during the four-game sweep as Maryville is now 5-8 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers scored three runs in the top of the first and have now outscored their opponent 12-2 in the first inning this season. Nolan Anspaugh doubled to start the game and Nolan Bryant followed with a RBI single. Bryant stole second and later scored on a ground out by Travis Harvey. The last run was scored on a wild pitch.

Jacob Buchberger got the start for DU on the mound and gave up just one run in the second inning. Meanwhile, Davenport just kept putting up runs. The Panthers scored seven times in the third inning and six times in the fourth. They wrapped it up with three runs in the fifth and the game was played in seven innings due to the mercy rule.

Zach Haefer and Caleb Smith each came out of the bullpen to pitch an inning. They both allowed one hit while Smith had a walk and strikeout. Tanner Marshall took the loss (0-1) for Maryville going just two innings. He allowed six earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Buchberger went 4-for-4 at the plate with four singles and scored two runs with one RBI. He went five innings and allowed five hits with a walk and six strikeouts to improve to 2-0.
- Bryant and Petre each set a career-high with five RBI. They were both 3-for-4 at the plate and hit a home run. It was Petre's first as a Panther. Petre also had a double.
- Anspaugh finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. He also had a double and stolen base.
- Kamrin Markwardt finished 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.
- DU as a team through 12 games is batting .371 with 156 hits in 420 at-bats. They have four players hitting over .400 in Buchberger (.510), Marcoux (.463), Anspaugh (.447) and Bryant (.436).
