Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Purdue Northwest Defeats Davenport in Final Seconds

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Trailing Purdue Northwest by two, 70-68, with under a minute to play in the game, Davenport's Evan Hines hit a go-ahead three-pointer from the left wing that put the Panthers up one, 71-70, with just 15 ticks left. Ten seconds later, the Pride's Mikell Cooper hit a runner in the lane off glass that gave his team the lead back, 72-71. On Davenport's ensuing possession, Scott Ulaneo attempted to call a timeout when the Panthers didn't have one, Davenport was issued a team technical foul, and Purdue Northwest's Gregory Boyle sank a pair of free throws to put the Pride up three, 74-71. Chris Rollins was then fouled on the way back down and missed both free throws (the second on purpose) before the final buzzer sounded.

Ulaneo's 20 points tied the game high and gave him back-to-back 20-point performances after 24 the outing before against Wayne State. Also scoring in double-figures for Davenport were Chris Rollins with 19 and Hines with 14 while Rollins also led the Panthers in assists (6 - tied his season high) and steals (4). Chaz Birchfield and Elijah Belle tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight, which is a new career high for both.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair that saw seven ties and six lead changes as neither team led by more than four points aside from when Davenport was up six early, 9-3. At the break, the Panthers led by two, 35-33, and boasted their first halftime lead of the season. Aside from three deadlocks in the second half and Purdue Northwest's lead at 51-50, the Pride's next advantage didn't come until the 4:08 mark when they were up 65-63. From there until the final buzzer, Davenport's only lead came when Hines hit that triple at the 15-second mark.

These two teams will go toe to toe again on Saturday with the tip-off set for 1 p.m. inside the DU Student Center.
