Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Davenport Defeats William Jewell with Complete-Game Effort, 75-67

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Davenport University men's basketball team played well on both ends of the court on Saturday against William Jewell as the Panthers shot an efficient 50 percent (25-of-50) from the field and held the Cardinals to just 36.4 percent (20-for-55) shooting in their own right. With the score tied at 64-64 and just over four minutes to play in the second half, Davenport used an 11-3 run to put William Jewell away, win it by eight, 75-67, and improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Making his DU debut, Marcedus Leech Jr. finished with a team high 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including two makes in three attempts from deep, and went 2-for-3 at the free throw line. Leech also notched four rebounds, one assist and a steal in his 24 minutes on the court. Also scoring in double-figures for the Panthers was Chris Rollins with 14, Jairus Stevens (pictured) with 14 and Jakub Dombek with 10. Luke Maranka paced Davenport in both rebounds and blocks with 10 and two, respectively, while Rollins dished out eight assists and tallied a pair of steals.

The game saw a total of seven ties, the final one coming at 64-64 prior to Davenport's big run to seal it, as well as six lead changes. During that 11-3 run for the Panthers, four different players found the scoring column (led by Stevens with four) and the Cardinals made just one of their eight field goal attempts.

In the team head-to-head, Davenport held the upper hand in the rebounding battle (41-28), second-chance points (10-5), bench scoring (33-7), and points in the paint (30-22). The Panthers also racked up 15 assists to the Cardinals' eight while William Jewell shot just 20.8 percent (5-for-24) from behind the arc.

Next up on the schedule, Davenport will travel to Kenosha, Wis. for Parkside's Haribo Invitational on Nov. 19-20. The Panthers will face Upper Iowa that Friday (6 p.m. ET) and Southwest Minnesota State the following Saturday (2 p.m. ET).
