GLIAC Tournament Central
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's soccer team will head to Big Rapids on Tuesday to face Ferris State at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament. The seventh-seeded Panthers will match up with the second-seeded Bulldogs for the third time this season, the last being in DU's 3-1 loss to FSU on Senior Day at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex on Nov. 5.
Davenport was still able to build some positive momentum at the end of the regular season with a 3-1 win at Parkside in which
Haley Diekevers,
Angelina McSauby and
Filippa Struxsjoe each found the back of the net for the Panthers. Ferris State leads the all-time series against Davenport, 8-0-1, the one tie being a 0-0 draw on Oct. 25, 2019 in Caledonia. In the two squads' last meeting on Nov. 5, the Panthers' snapped a four-match skid against the Bulldogs in which they hadn't scored a goal.
Davenport will be looking for the first GLIAC Tournament win in program history and draws a matchup with Ferris State just like it did for the 2018 quarterfinal round. In that meeting, the 14th-ranked Bulldogs scored the game's first four goals before the Panthers' Sabrina Stone got her team on the board in the 87th minute.
