Panthers Look to Respond Against Roosevelt

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport women's soccer earned a 1-1 draw against No. 5 Grand Valley State on Friday before dropping a 1-0 decision at Parkside on Sunday. The Panthers earned a point against one of the nation's top teams before Parkside scored early to claim Sunday's match. Davenport returns home Friday, Oct. 23, to host Roosevelt at 3 p.m., beginning a stretch of three remaining home games in the regular season.

The Panthers held Grand Valley State scoreless through the first half despite facing a 12-3 shot disadvantage. Elizabeth Wolter made three saves before the break, and after the Lakers took an early second-half lead, Audrey Muterspaugh answered with an unassisted goal in the 60th minute. Muterspaugh's seventh goal of the season evened the match, and Wolter finished with seven saves as Davenport held on for the 1-1 draw, the second tie in the all-time series.

Davenport looked to build on that performance Sunday at Parkside, but the Rangers scored in the ninth minute to take an early lead. The Panthers continued to push for an equalizer, creating chances through Sofia Capoccia, Ella Chatfield and Muterspaugh, while Autumn Wakefield added two shots. Wolter recorded six saves to keep Davenport within striking distance, but the Panthers finished with 11 shots, including four on goal, without finding the net.

The Panthers return to Pappas Stadium on Friday to host Roosevelt at 3 p.m., looking to bounce back and build momentum in the closing stretch of conference play. Audrey Muterspaugh leads Davenport with seven goals this season, while Elizabeth Wolter has recorded 79 saves with a 1.12 goals-against average and a .823 save percentage. Davenport will look to translate those individual performances into a strong result at home.
