GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team followed a 30-point win on Friday with a 20-point win on Saturday against visiting Lake Superior State. The Panthers broke open a close game in the second quarter by outscoring the Lakers 26-8 and took a 40-25 lead into halftime.
The teams played even in the third quarter each scoring 18 points and then DU finished in the fourth quarter outscoring LSSU 19-14. The pivotal second quarter saw the Panthers hold LSSU scoreless for over five minutes and they used a 26-6 to build their 15-point halftime cushion.
The Lakers got as close as 12 points at the 9:45 mark of the fourth quarter but the Panthers keep them at arms length for the rest of the contest. The big star of the game for DU was junior
Toni Grace. She set a new career-high with 33 points and went 11-of-18 from the floor and 7-of-7 at the free throw line. Grace is now averaging 18.1 points per game and shooting 89.1 percent at the foul line. She also had a well-rounded game by tying for the team lead in rebounds (5) and leading the team in assists (5).
Scout Nelson contributed 14 points and five rebounds in 36 minutes.
Kenzie Wilkinson added 13 points and five rebounds going 5-of-9 from the floor including 3-of-6 behind the arc. DU finished 10-of-28 from deep marking back-to-back games with double-digit triples. The Lakers shot just 29.7 percent from the floor and had two players in double figures including Mattison Rayman (15) and Jaden Wilder (11).
