Panthers upended by Greyhounds

DU fell 14-6 in GLVC action at 10th-ranked Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team played their fourth nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Wednesday as they traveled to 10th-ranked Indianapolis for an afternoon showdown with the Greyhounds. In the first meeting between the two schools, Indianapolis prevailed by a final score of 14-6 at Key Stadium.

Of the four nationally-ranked teams, the Greyhounds are the highest ranked opponent to date against the Panthers. They came out hungry after a loss to Lindenwood last Saturday by scoring the first four goals including the first three in just over three minutes. Drew Billig netted the first two goals at 14:03 and 12:12. Mike Doyle scored just a few seconds later and Brian Robb scored at 6:27 of the first quarter to establish a cushion.

Keelan McKouen notched a man-up goal to get DU on the board at 4:36 from James Johnston on a shot from the top of the formation through traffic. Brian Robb scored again for Indianapolis at 3:34 from Wyatt Auyer to regain the four-goal lead. Austin Thompson scored DU's second goal of the quarter with 15 seconds left from Adam Smellie. The eight goals combined was the highest scoring quarter of the game.

The Panthers scored once in the second quarter as Smellie took a feed from Johnston and buried it at the 3:34 mark. Robb scored his third of the game and Andrew Simonich scored twice in the quarter including a man-up tally with three seconds until halftime. Indianapolis led 9-3 at intermission.

Simonich scored the first goal of the third quarter from Jake Zickel to hit double digits at 10-3. Stephen Ochsenkehl scored a man-up goal for the Panthers at 36 seconds left in the quarter. The Panthers finished with two goals in the fourth quarter. McKouen's second of the game at 9:47 and Jordan Caskenette's first goal at 5:14 were both unassisted.

Daniel Milano made 15 saves for the Panthers and has had double-digit saves in every game this season. Davenport was also 2-for-5 in extra-man chances while Indianapolis converted on their one and only attempt.
