GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team got off to a hot start on Saturday against 20th-ranked Rockhurst but could not hold that momentum in a 12-8 loss to the Hawks in GLVC action. DU led 3-0 in the first quarter as
Stephen Ochsenkehl scored twice in the early run and
Gavin Mead notched the other goal.
Rockhurst then responded with eight straight goals including a 3-0 edge in the second quarter. Jonny Licau and Brooks Hanson each scored a man-up goal to end the run late in the third quarter.
Connor Foster ended the run at 2:02 of the third quarter from Ochsenkehl. Ochsenkehl then scored again at 30 seconds left in the quarter from
Trent Eichbauer.
Ochsenkehl scored once in the fourth quarter to finish with four goals on a man-up chance at 11:05. Rockhurst extended the lead to 11-6 with 7:49 left and then
Jordan Caskenette scored back-to-back goals to make it 11-8. Kevin Grelle scored the game's final goal for RU with 1:55 left from Hanson.
Rockhurst fired a total of 64 shots compared to 26 for the Panthers.
Daniel Milano stood on his head in net for DU with a career-high 25 saves. Ochsenkehl had five points in the contest and fired six shots on goal. DU struggled in the face-off circle as Rockhust won 19-of-24 chances.
