GLIAC Release
GLIAC -- Senior outside hitter,
Hayley Kreiger, has been named GLIAC South Player of the Week for the second time in her career. The award comes after a four-match stretch in which Kreiger hit .293 with 72 kills and only 19 errors on 181 total attacks to go with 39 digs, 12 total blocks and seven service aces. Those numbers also garnered her MVP honors of the All-Tournament Team as Davenport went 3-1 in two days at Walsh's Cavalier Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
"Hayley was incredible on the court for us this weekend," said head coach,
Brian Netzler. "She continues to improve each and every time out and very much earned this week's award with her efforts."
Saturday against Notre Dame College, Kreiger crushed a career high 26 kills to become the eighth member of Davenport's 1,000 kill club and that effort was part of back-to-back double-doubles for No. 4. The very next match against Walsh, Kreiger set the program record for kills in a three-set match with 20 besting the old mark of 19 that was set in the first year of the program in 2006. Not only did she send home those 20 kills, but she did so with a .613 hitting percentage, which is good for sixth in program history.
The South Haven native is now first in the GLIAC in total kills (133), kills per set (3.91) and total attacks (360). Nationally, Kreiger is seventh in total kills, eighth in total attacks, 25th in points per set (4.59), 29th in kills per set, and 51st in attacks per set (10.59).
