GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Fueled by a 15-point halftime lead, 48-33, the Davenport University men's basketball team was able to pick up its second win of the season, 91-78, over Great Lakes Christian on Wednesday night. Next up, the Panthers will jump right back into GLIAC play with a 3 p.m. Sunday tip at Grand Valley State.
Marcedus Leech Jr. (pictured) led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-7 from deep, to go with nine rebounds and three assists. Also scoring in double-figures for Davenport were
Jakub Dombek and
Jaylen Hodges, each with 18. Dombek secured the second double-double of his career and first of the season thanks to a career-high 13 boards while
Jordan Sterling and
Chaz Birchfield each dished out five assists. Defensively, Dombek racked up four of Davenport's 10 blocks and Sterling tallied three steals.
Davenport shot nearly 54 percent (53.4) from the field for the game including almost 57 percent (56.3) in the first half alone. The Panthers also converted eight of their 24 three-point attempts and 21 of their 30 free throw tries for the game. After shooting just 35.1 percent in the first half, Great Lakes Christian turned it on in the second half to shoot 42.5 percent in those 20 minutes and outscored the home team by two, 45-43.
