HOOVER, Ala. - The Davenport baseball team rebounded from a pair of losses yesterday against Hillsdale and ended the weekend on a high note with a 16-4 win over the Chargers for their first win of the season. DU managed 16 hits in the game and the top two guys in the order, both preseason all-americans, paced the offense.
Nolan Anspaugh went 4-for-5 and tied the school record with five runs scored. He also drove in two and stole a base from the leadoff spot.
Noah Marcoux in the two-spot also went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs.
Dalton O'Boyle got the start and performed well on the mound. He went three innings to get the win and allowed just one hit and one earned run (two total). He walked three and fanned two Chargers in 52 pitches. The pitching overall was much better on Saturday as freshman
Carson Fischer in his debut at Davenport relieved O'Boyle and went 3.1 innings. He allowed just two hits and no runs with a walk and four strikeouts.
Spencer Vainavicz went 0.2 innings and
Evan Maize finished up in two innings allowing two runs (both unearned) with two walks and two strikeouts.
Gaetano Vallone blasted a three-run home run to right field in the third inning which gave DU a 5-0 lead. Anspaugh had a two-run double to right field in the sixth to increase the lead to 9-2.
Cam Hart homered for the second straight day, a two-run jack to left field, in the seventh inning. Parkey Brey came off the bench and had his first RBI as a Panther with a double to left field in the ninth.
Brock Henley drew a bases loaded walk for a RBI following Brey.
