WHEELING, W.Va. - The Davenport men's lacrosse team notched their first win of the season (1-1 overall) on Saturday as they went out of conference for a 10-6 road triumph at Wheeling University.
James Johnston scored half of the team's goals on the afternoon.
Jordan Caskenette added three goals and two assists.
Dylan Day and
Adam Smellie also scored for the Panthers.
DU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter including a man-up goal by Day at 5:55. Wheeling made it 2-1 with 49 seconds left in the quarter on a goal by Jacob Knippel. Davenport pulled away in the second quarter and scored six times as a team. DU scored the first four goals of the quarter to lead 6-1 at the 7:38 mark. Johnston scored three straight times in the second quarter.
Davenport scored once in the third and fourth quarters. Johnston scored at 12:01 of the third and Caskenette scored at 10:55 of the fourth.
Griffin Poll finished with two assists and caused two turnovers.
Kaden Seelye had a team-high seven groundballs and caused one turnover.
Daniel Milano made 11 saves in the contest as goalkeeper for the Panthers. Davenport finished with 37 shots including 26 on goal. DU also won 11-of-18 in the faceoff department.
