Panthers have win streak halted at Eckerd

DU fell 6-5 to the Tritons and are now 6-6 overall

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Davenport baseball team had their five-game win streak halted on Tuesday with a 6-5 loss at Eckerd (7-7). The Panthers are also a .500 club with a record of 6-6.

Brennan Lux got the visiting Panthers on the board first in the top of the second inning with a RBI single to right field which scored Gaetano Vallone. Eckerd would then score the next three runs with two in the bottom of the second and one more in the fifth. The Tritons scored on a potential double play but it couldn't be turned in time as Gunner Womer scored. Jake Fajardo in the ninth spot of the lineup came up big with a RBI single to left center for the 2-1 lead. Eckerd made it 3-1 in the fifth as Michael Ballard scored on a wild pitch by Evan Maize.

The Panthers tied the game at 3 in the sixth as Vallone had a two-run scoring single to right center. Cam Hart started the inning with a double and Carson Eby was hit by a pitch and they came around to score. The Tritons took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth as Carter Troncin relieved Maize and gave up a RBI single to Danny Gutcher.

Tyler Cox had the biggest hit of the night in the seventh with a two-run double to right center for a 6-3 lead off Troncin. Nolan Anspaugh hit a one-out, two-run homer to left center in the top of the ninth to get the score to 6-5. Lux singled to start the inning and scored on the long ball. Maize (0-2) took the loss in 1.1 innings of work. Payton McIntosh (1-0) retired two batters and got the win for Eckerd. Cox came in with one out in the ninth and got the save his third of the season.
