Derrick Edington went five innings and struck out six in his first win of the season (1-1)

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Davenport baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday with a 12-4 win at Southern Indiana. It was the first game for the Panthers since ending their spring trip and the Panthers also picked up a regional win in the process against a talented Screaming Eagles squad that has two wins against current top 25 programs in Trevecca Nazarene and West Florida already this season.

The teams shifted their series with the one game today and a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1:00 PM ET. The bats were hot early after Southern Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. DU scored three times in the second and third inning to build a 6-1 lead. Carson Eby hit a two-run homer to left scoring Cam Hart in the second for his first homer of the season. Then in the third, Carter Troncin had a big three-run homer with two outs scoring Gaetano Vallone and Eby. Eby was hit by a pitch with two outs followed by a single from Vallone. Troncin turned on a 3-2 pitch for his first home run of the season.

Derrick Edington had a very solid outing in the start for DU and pitched four scoreless innings after the first. He got out of a jam in the third and stranded two runners on base and then finished his outing by retiring the final five batters he faced. Edington improved to 1-1 and allowed just two hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Spencer Vainavicz and Zach Haefer followed with scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. The Screaming Eagles scored three runs of Parker Brey in the eighth but Michael Lincoln pitched the final 1.2 innings and allowed no runs with a strikeout.
