GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Trailing Concordia-St. Paul, 9-8, near the end of the third quarter, the Davenport University women's lacrosse team proceeded to score four of the game's final five goals and held on for the 12-10 victory on Sunday afternoon. Davenport (9-1, 2-0 GLIAC) extended its winning streak to six and will be at No. 10 Grand Valley State (10-1, 2-0 GLIAC) on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. opening draw. The Lakers' only loss, like the Panthers, came at Indianapolis and they've won eight in a row since that defeat.
Aaliyah Miller (4 goals) was Davenport's sole leader in goals for the first time this season and took home the team's Player of the Game honor because of it. Miller also paced the Panthers in assists with two to go with six shots, five of which were on goal, and two ground balls. Davenport's eight other scores came from
Ayanna Turrubiates (3),
Anna Glynn (2),
Avery Garant (1),
Maddy Haynes (1), and
Blakely Malpass (1). Glynn, Garant and
Reilly Noble chipped in on the attack with one assist each.
As a team, Davenport controlled the draw to the tune of 13-11 and four different Panthers aided in that effort including
An Poropat (5 draw controls), Glynn (4), Turrubiates (3), and Haynes (1). Defensively, Glynn and Haynes each notched three ground balls,
Theadora Krueger caused two turnovers and
Maisy Latus (9-1) played all 60 minutes with eight saves on 23 shots faced.
Also in the team head-to-head, Davenport held the advantage in total shots (30-23), shots on target (21-18), turnovers (14-16), ground balls (14-8), and free-position shots (8-6). For Concordia-St. Paul, the edge came in saves (9-8) and clears (13-16 compared to 12-14 for DU).
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series 10-1, including 7-0 since Davenport's jump to Division II prior to the 2018 season. In those seven meetings, the Panthers were as close as two, 15-13, on April 10, 2021 in Allendale.
