ALLENDALE, Mich. - The No. 24 Davenport University women's lacrosse team was across town on Wednesday night for a midweek affair with No. 11 Grand Valley State. The Lakers (11-1, 3-0 GLIAC) dispatched the Panthers (9-2, 2-1 GLIAC) by a score of 19-3 in the battle of IWLCA top 25 foes. Next up, DU will be at Northern Michigan (8-2, 2-0 GLIAC) on Sunday for a 12 p.m. start against the Wildcats.
All three of Davenport's goals came from
Ayanna Turrubiates (pictured) who did her damage with six shots, four of which were on goal, to go with two ground balls, one caused turnover and a draw control. Also firing a shot for the Panthers were
Anna Glynn (5 shots, 2 SOG),
Avery Garant (1 SOG) and
Blakely Malpass (1 shot).
Christine Steffes led the way in ground balls with three, eight different Panthers caused a turnover and
Aaliyah Miller tallied three draw controls.
In goal,
Maisy Latus (25:36 in net) failed to notch a save for just the second time this season (first time in a loss) and
Makenna Pitchford (34:24) stopped two shots on 15 faced.
