MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Davenport University women's lacrosse team jumped back into the win column on Sunday with a 19-15 victory at Northern Michigan as the Panthers' head coach,
Rob Harris, reached the century mark for career wins. Next up, DU will host No. 9 Lindenwood (8-2) on Tuesday with the opening draw scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Turf Field.
Davenport's leading goal getter,
Ayanna Turrubiates, paced the Panthers again on Sunday and did so with nine scores thanks to 11 shots, 10 of which were on target. Also scoring for the Panthers were
Anna Glynn (5 goals, all eight shots were on goal),
Blakely Malpass (2),
Maddy Haynes (1),
Aaliyah Miller (1), and
Avery Garant (1). Miller was on top of the assist department with three while
Reilly Noble and Glynn added two and one, respectively.
Glynn's stat line didn't stop there as she was also first in ground balls with seven and draw controls with nine. Defensively,
Fredi Mailand caused the only turnover for Davenport and
Maisy Latus made eight saves on 32 shots faced in 60 minutes.
Davenport scored five of the game's first six goals and 11 of its initial 13 before Northern Michigan began to mount a comeback. From that point until the end of the game, the Wildcats outscored the Panthers by five, 13-8, but luckily the visitors had done just enough to hold on for the four-goal victory. Harris is now 100-42 (70.4 winning percentage) in his eight-plus seasons as DU's head coach.
