KENOSHA, Wis. - The series at Parkside was delayed two days but the Panthers were ready to pounce on Sunday as they beat the Rangers 15-6 and 18-4 in a doubleheader. Davenport improved their GLIAC record to 6-4 and moved into second place in the conference standings.
The Panthers used a huge eight-run, second inning in game one to build a comfortable lead. The historic moment came in the inning when
Caleb Anspaugh became the first Panther to homer twice in the same inning. He hit a solo to left field to give DU a 2-1 lead to lead off the inning and then hit a grand slam with two outs to left center on the first pitch to give DU a 9-1 lead.
Gaetano Vallone also had a bases-clearing double to left center to drive in three between those homers.
Noah Marcoux hit a three-run homer in the third inning as
Logan Hylek and Vallone walked in front of him for a 12-1 lead.
Christian Petre hit the fourth home run of the game in the fourth inning. It was a two-run shot to left on the first pitch and scored
Anthony Aloisio who walked in front of him.
Derrick Edington improved to 2-3 on the mound and picked up the win going four innings in the seven-inning game. He did not allow a hit but did allow a run with three walks and had seven strikeouts. The Rangers scored five runs in the final three innings off relievers
Logan Bursick-Harrington,
Evan Maize, and
Tyler Hill. DU finished with 10 hits as Marcoux,
Caleb Anspaugh, and Petre each had two.
Caleb Anspaugh drove in a career-high five runs and scored twice.Â
Davenport built an 18-0 lead in game two before the Rangers scored the final four runs. It was a modest 8-0 lead after seven innings, but then the Panthers scored 10 times in the eighth. Vallone drove in a run in the first with a sacrifice fly and another in the second inning on a RBI single. Petre drove home a run in the third with a double to left which made it 5-0.
Vallone's third RBI of the game came in the seventh on a single to center. He drove in his fourth run in the eighth on a single throught the left side.
Connor Brawley came off the bench with a two-run single up the middle in the eighth.
Aaron Cardoza drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 15-0.
Dominick Cowdrey drove in his first two runs of the season with a double to right center in the eighth for the 18-0 lead.
Jared Schwartz improved to 2-3 on the mound going five innings. He allowed just one hit and no runs with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Michael Lincoln went three innings and allowed four hits and three runs.
Zach Haefer went one inning and gave up two hits and one run.
The Panthers totaled 19 hits including six doubles.
Nolan Anspaugh had two of those doubles and a sacrifice fly with two runs scored. Vallone finished 4-for-5 with four RBI and scored twice.
Ben Mets went 3-for-6 with three RBI. Petre finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Carson Eby went 2-for-3 and drew two walks at the plate.
