KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport baseball team finished up a four-game sweep of Parkside on Monday with a pair of wins (14-2 and 18-3) at Simmons Field. The Panthers are now 12-0 in the all-time series against the Rangers and have scored double-digit runs in the last 10 contests.
The offensive numbers in the four games are staggering as Davenport batted .399 (61-153) and outscored the Rangers 65-15. The team had a .719 slugging percentage and .510 on-base percentage. DU also collected 12 doubles, five triples, and nine homers to drive in 58 runs. The pitching was also stout with a 3.94 ERA in 32 innings. They allowed 23 hits in four games with 21 walks and 45 strikeouts. Parkside hit just .202 in the series (23-114).
Christian Petre had a .643 batting average (9-14) with eight runs and six RBI.
Caleb Anspaugh broke out with a .529 average (9-17) and belted four homers and a triple with 12 RBI.
Gaetano Vallone drove in 14 runs in four games and scored seven times.
Ben Mets and
Nolan Anspaugh both batted .500. Mets was 8-for-16 with two homers and six RBI, while
Nolan Anspaugh was 7-for-14 with two doubles and two triples.Â
In game one, the Panthers got five strong innings on the mound from
Carter Troncin. He allowed four hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts.
Dalton O'Boyle and
Pablo Jacques each had one inning and recorded three strikeouts apiece.
Vallone drove in a career-high five runs in game one going 2-for-4 with a double and a grand slam home run.
Caleb Anspaugh drove in four runs and had a triple and home run. Mets also left the yard for his only hit and scored twice.
Carson Eby drew three walks and had a double with three runs scored.
Davenport scored in seven of their nine at-bats in game two and pounded out 21 hits in the 18-3 win. DU opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning.
Carson Price had a sacrifice bunt to score the first run.
Nolan Anspaugh had a RBI single and Vallone lifted a sacrifice fly to center.
The Panthers added three more runs in the third inning as Troncin had a RBI groundout, Petre reached on a fielder's choice for a RBI and
Nolan Anspaugh had a RBI single.
Caleb Anspaugh hit a two-run homer to right in the fourth inning for an 8-2 lead.
The fifth inning saw a remarkable feat as the Panthers hit three straight triples to start the inning. Price hit his triple on the first pitch and then Petre followed on a full count and
Nolan Anspaugh hit one to left center for a 10-2 lead.
Noah Marcoux doubled with one out and Mets hit a two-run homer to make it 13-2.
Nolan Anspaugh tripled again in the sixth inning for a RBI to score Petre and it became the 10th time someone had two triples in a game at Davenport.
Blake Jacklin had a pinch hit, two-run single in the seventh and
Logan Todd had a RBI single in the eighth to conclude the scoring.
Nolan Anspaugh went 5-for-5 with four RBI and was his second career five-hit game (3/7/20 vs Hillsdale).
Caleb Anspaugh finished 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. It was his first four-hit game at DU. Mets went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. DU had two doubles, four triples and two long balls in game two.
Isaac Van Dyke got the start and went three innings.
Spencer Vainavicz,
Carson Fischer, and
Ricky Clark also tossed two innings. The four combined to strike out 12 batters.
