GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport welcomed No. 8 Lindenwood, the defending Division II National Champion, to the DU Turf Field for the first time ever on Tuesday in Grand Rapids.
Ayanna Turrubiates (pictured) scored two of her game-high seven goals midway through the second quarter to pull the Panthers within three, 9-6, before the Lions rattled off six-straight scores to take the wind out of the home team's sails. From there, the hosts could never get closer than seven before the final margin of 10, 21-11. Next up, DU will get back to GLIAC play at Concordia-St. Paul on Friday for a 7 p.m. ET start against the Golden Bears.
Davenport now sits at 10-3 overall while Lindenwood improved to 9-2 with Tuesday's decision. Four games remain in the regular season for the Panthers as they'll hit the road for two before playing the final two inside the friendly confines.
As mentioned above, Turrubiates led all scorers with seven goals thanks to 14 shots, 12 of which were on goal. The Davenport newcomer has now accounted for seven or more goals in a single match five times this season, including each of the last two. Also scoring for the Panthers on Tuesday were
Aaliyah Miller (2),
Anna Glynn (1) and
Reilly Noble (1). Assist wise, Noble, Miller and
Avery Garant each notched one.
Defensively, four different players registered multiple ground balls including Glynn (4),
Theadora Krueger (3),
Maddy Haynes (2), and
Christine Steffes (2) while Haynes caused a pair of turnovers. In goal,
Maisy Latus (10-3) made seven saves on 32 shots faced, her sixth effort of the season with at least seven stops.
Davenport controlled the draw control advantage to the tune of 20-16 and Glynn was the Panther pacing the way in that department with eight of her own. The Panthers also had the upper hand in ground balls (16-10) while the Lions were on top in free-position shots (5-4), successful clears (19-16), shots (32-28), and shots on target (28-21).
