KENNESAW, Ga. - Davenport was in the Red Division and faced Northeastern, Air Force and Virginia Tech in their first three games in pool play on day one of the USA Rugby 7s Collegiate Championships. The Panthers took on Northeastern in their opening game on Saturday and Davenport got a victory with a 35-0 shutout. Tries for the Northeastern game were scored by
Lauren Peterson (x2), Addie Ochoa, Lily O'Connor,
Megan Bird and
Mariah Pruitt. All six conversion kicks were awarded, and all were made by
Aubrey Crist in her first 7s season with the Panthers. In game two, Davenport took on Air Force and won 31-0. Davenport quickly locked up on defense, holding Air Force scoreless throughout the entirety of the game. Although the games are only 14 minutes, tries were made by five individuals including
Jasmine Hernandez and Val Goldsmith. The Panthers won their third game of the day, taking down Virginia Tech 35-10. In this particular match, Davenport showed true endurance and was able to get the third win to seal up their first day at Nationals. New try scoring individuals include;
Aubrey Crist, Abbi Kowalczk, Abby Jaramillo and
Chloe Baumann. Sunday, May 15th the teams will have up to three more games finalizing their place in the Rugby 7s Collegiate Championship.
