GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Freshman goaltender
Kyler Lowden stopped 26 shots and picked up his first collegiate win on Saturday in a 9-4 win over Toledo. For Davenport, it was their third straight win and a two-game sweep over the Rockets.
It was an incredibly busy first period as DU built a 5-2 lead.
Heath Drye continued his impressive start to the season with his fifth goal just 1:06 into the game. Jacob Alton added to the lead at 3:54 with his second goal of the year. The Rockets cut the deficit in half at 5:51 with Nicholas Liebau scoring his first goal of the season. The Panthers then used consecutive power play goals to increase their lead to 4-1.
Branwen Pollett got the first one at 6:43 and
Trent Benedict scored the next one at 8:22.
Brendan Bauer notched his second goal of the season at 13:08. Adam Ferreira got a power play goal for Toledo at 14:31, but trailed by three goals after 20 minutes.
Toledo made it 5-3 at 12:39 of the second period on the power play, but the Panthers then scored the last three goals of the period.
Keelan Saworski got his third goal of the season at 16:14.
Justin Turner added his second goal of the campaign just 1:31 later and finally Bauer's second goal of the game came just 37 seconds later on the power play.
Ryan Blackburn concluded the scoring in the third period as he got the rare chance at a penalty shot and scored at 17:57 for his first goal of the season. Bauer added three assists to go with his two goals for a five-point game. Saworski and
Kristers Klavins also added two assists.
