Panthers mark fifth victory of the season

Written by Nicole Carvalho, Rugby Contributor

Indiana, Penn. -
The Davenport University women's rugby team defeated New Haven University in a resounding 102-0 victory that consisted of poor weather conditions. This was the fifth win of the season for the Panthers (5-0) propelling them closer to playoff qualification.

Despite the final score, the Chargers presented fierce competition, yet their efforts couldn't deter the Panthers from repeatedly finding the try zone. DU started their strong offensive showcase with Olivia Farkas scoring within the first few minutes of the match. Despite the less-than-ideal weather conditions, the Panthers utilized the game as an opportunity to experiment with new plays and test their evolving skills before the upcoming final conference match against AIC. While not every attempt was successful, the Panthers exhibited adaptability, learning from their errors and maintaining field dominance.

An additional noteworthy point is that the Panthers traveled with a limited roster, having only three substitutions available. This forced the players to take on different positions, showcasing their versatility. With unwavering support from their teammates, the Panthers delivered an impressive performance for all spectators. The standout player of the match was senior Addy Ochoa who scored a remarkable total of four tries. Her contributions not only helped maintain the team's high level of success but also demonstrated the exceptional skills she has honed over the years as a pivotal member of the Davenport squad.
