Panthers Sweep Pride for 11th Consecutive Time

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For the 11th straight time, the Davenport University volleyball team swept Purdue Northwest on Sunday afternoon at the DU Student Center. Lindsay Taylor led the way for the Panthers (10-12, 6-5 GLIAC), one dig shy of another double-double, recording 18 kills and nine digs.

A 7-2 run early in the first set helped DU get out to a 12-7 lead, with Taylor getting a pair of kills during that stretch. The Pride (9-13, 4-7 GLIAC) came back to tie the set at 21 apiece late, but the Panthers finished on a 4-0 rally to claim the 1-0 advantage in the match. The set ended on an attack error by Erica Brohm of PNW.

After trailing at the beginning of the second set, the Panthers dominated late. A 5-1 run by DU was sparked by Emma Turnquist, as Davenport took a 16-14 lead midway through the set. Abby Welke delivered a kill from Nicole Odeen to ignite a 4-1 run, growing the lead to four (20-16). Turnquist later had back-to-back kills, putting DU one point away from closing-out the set as they led 24-18. On the ensuing play, the Pride had another attack error, giving DU the 25-18 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Purdue Northwest led 8-4 early in the third and final set following a 6-0 rally. However, the Panthers responded shortly after with a 6-1 to give themselves a one-point advantage. During that stretch, Emmy Webb and Taylor each recorded a pair of kills. Taylor continued her impressive match late, registering four of the last DU points, including the final kill from Odeen to take the set 25-21.

Turnquist ended with 12 kills for the Panthers, marking the third time in the last four matches she has surpassed double-digit kills, as well as a career-high seven total blocks. Webb ended with five kills and five blocks, while Abby Alan chipped in with five kills.

Defensively, Ola Nowak led the Panthers with 12 digs, marking the second time eclipsing double-digit digs. The junior is also just one dig away from 100 on the year.

Savannah Hall notched a career-high 13 assists, while Odeen led the way with 20 in the win for Davenport.
