Panthers Drop Rematch Against No. 20 Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team was swept 3-0 Friday evening by No. 20 Ferris State in the second matchup between the two teams this season. The Panthers (7-9, 4-4 GLIAC) finished the match with 34 kills, 29 assists, and 51 digs.

After dropping the first set 25-18, Abby Alan registered five kills in the early stages of the second set, propelling DU to a 12-8 lead. However, the Bulldogs (13-3, 8-0 GLIAC) took a three-point lead down the stretch (20-17). Lindsay Taylor sparked a quick 3-0 rally with a pair of kills to tie the set 20-20, forcing FSU to take a timeout. Ferris State responded, closing-out the set with a narrow 25-23 win and taking a 2-0 lead.

Davenport found itself in a double-digit deficit in the third and final set and ultimately fell 25-11.

Alan led the way for the Panthers, finishing with a team-high nine kills in the loss. Taylor added seven kills and 13 digs for Davenport, while Emmy Webb ended with a match-high .866 hitting percentage with five kills and a pair of blocks.

Nicole Odeen dished out a team-high 21 assists, while Stephanie Kalinowski led all players defensively with 17 digs.

The Panthers will continue to play on the road tomorrow (Oct. 7) in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. where they will match up against Lake Superior State at 3 p.m. Davenport defeated the Lakers 3-1 earlier this season in Grand Rapids, Mich.
