Panthers Suffer Road Loss to Cardinals

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Davenport University women's volleyball team fell to Saginaw Valley State 3-2 Friday evening at the Hamilton Gymnasium.

Stephanie Kalinowski racked up a career-high in both service aces (6) and digs (38) for the Panthers.

Trailing by two late in the first set, Emmy Webb and Morgan Tydings had consecutive kills for the Panthers to tie it at 24 apiece. However, the Cardinals answered, scoring the final two points to take the set 26-24.

DU put together a five-point rally in the second set to garner a 12-9 advantage. Lindsay Taylor had two kills in the five-point stretch. SVSU gained a one-point lead late (22-21), but the Panthers responded with four consecutive points to win the set, 25-22, and tie the match 1-1. Webb delivered the final blow with a kill off an assist from Nicole Odeen.

A staggering 7-0 rally put Davenport on top of Saginaw Valley 17-12 in the third set. Kaitlin Jordan sealed the set, recording back-to-back kills to propel DU to a 25-21 victory and a 2-1 advantage in the match.

After getting out to a 15-7 lead in the fourth set, the Panthers could not hold on, as the Cardinals stormed back to win the set 25-22. SVSU continued its momentum into the final set, getting out to a 10-1 lead. The Panthers pulled back within three (12-9), but it wouldn't be enough, as the Cardinals pulled out the 15-11 victory.

Webb finished with 14 kills, hitting .270 while serving three aces to lead the way for the Panthers. Taylor finished with a double-double, notching 14 kills and 16 digs in the loss. Odeen chipped in with a team-high 25 assists for Davenport.
