Panthers Fall to Nationally Ranked Bulldogs

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Davenport University men's basketball team concluded its time at the HARIBO Invitational, falling to No. 12 Minnesota Duluth 105-62 on Saturday evening at the DeSimone Gymnasium. 

Myles Belyeu posted a season-high 21 points for the Panthers (1-3, 0-0 GLIAC) while adding three rebounds and two steals. 

With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Belyeu scored four consecutive points to pull DU within two points of the Bulldogs (3-1, 0-0 NSIC).

Jeff Carrier trimmed the Davenport deficit to nine points as he capped off a 7-2 run to begin the second half, and the Panthers trailed 51-42. However, UMD responded with a 12-0 run, taking a 21-point lead over DU.

The Bulldogs continued to roll the remainder of the second half, finishing the game shooting nearly 70 percent from the floor and 59.1 percent from deep. Davenport ended the game shooting 37.9 percent from the field.

Matas Deksnys and Marcedus Leech Jr. finished the game in double-digits for the Panthers, pouring in 10 apiece. Luke Bara scored 10 points off the bench for DU, drilling a pair of three-pointers in the loss to go along with two rebounds.

Up Next 
The Panthers will play their home opener on Tuesday (Nov. 21) against Great Lake Christian at 7 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. at the DU Student Center.
