Panthers Drop Game One at Gary Miller Classic

ERIE, Pa. - Marcedus Leech Jr. poured in a season-high 29 points as the Davenport University men's basketball team fell to Lincoln 77-68 in round one of the Gary Miller Classic at the Highmark Events Center. The 6-5 guard shot 11-for-15 from the floor, 6-for-9 from deep and has eclipsed 20 points in three of six games this season.

Both teams shot exactly 50 percent from the field, while the Panthers (2-4, 0-0 GLIAC) shot the three-ball more efficiently, shooting at a 34.8 percent clip from deep compared to 25 percent for the Lions (3-3, 0-0 CIAA).

DU gained a slim two point lead five minutes into the contest, as Matas Deksnys drilled a shot from deep to give the Panthers a 13-11 advantage. Leech Jr. scored six points in the final 1:26 of the first half as the Lions took a 31-26 lead into the break.

After 1:21 eclipsed in the second half, Leech Jr. made a three-pointer to tie the game at 33 apiece. Despite tying the game on six occasions in the second half, the Panthers never regained the lead.

Jeff Carrier scored 12 points off the bench, his second consecutive game in double-figures, adding four rebounds and a steal for DU. Deksnys ended the night with eight points, draining two threes and grabbing three boards. Myles Belyeu chipped in with seven points, six assists and three rebounds for the Panthers.
