Panthers Fall in Five Sets on Senior Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Davenport University women's volleyball team dropped its final regular season home contest of the 2023 season, falling 3-2 against Parkside Saturday evening at the DU Student Center. The match served as the team's senior day, recognizing the five players in their final season with DU: Lexie Beeke, Nicole Odeen, Lindsay Taylor, Stephanie Kalinowski and Emmy Webb.

Morgan Tydings finished with a career-high 12 kills in the match for the Panthers, swinging at a .417 clip. The sophomore's previous career high came earlier this season against Lake Superior State (Sept. 22), slamming 11 in the win.

The Rangers started the match with a 1-0 lead after a nine-point victory in the first set (25-16).

DU answered on the ensuing set with a dominant 25-13 win over UWP. The Panthers got out to a quick 7-1 lead to start the second set, featuring three kills by Tydings from Odeen. Webb spurred a 6-1 rally with back-to-back kills, propelling Davenport to its first double-digit lead of the match (17-7). Webb delivered the final blow with a kill off an assist from Beeke to tie the match 1-1.

Trailing 16-12 in the third set, Kaitlin Jordan ignited a 4-1 rally to pull the Panthers within one point (17-16). Two Tydings kills helped DU go on a quick 3-0 run, regaining the lead, 20-19. The set ended with four straight Davenport points as Ola Nowak recorded the final point with a service ace landing in the back corner to defeat Parkside 26-24.

Despite the 2-1 lead, the Panthers could not hold on, dropping set four (25-20) and set five (15-8).

Taylor finished with her 14th double-double of the season, notching 12 kills and 17 digs. Webb hit a staggering .611, slamming 11 kills and adding seven total blocks.
