Felton Records Second Consecutive Double-Double in Loss to Timberwolves

MIDLAND, Mich. - James Felton recorded his second consecutive double-double, scoring a season-high 18 points and grabbing 10 boards as the Davenport University men's basketball team fell to Northwood 86-70 on Wednesday evening. 

Marcedus Leech Jr. scored the opening basket, putting the Panthers (3-5, 0-0 GLIAC) ahead 2-0 to start the game. After falling behind by 16, DU scored the final four points as Felton hit a layup with 37 seconds remaining in the half and the Panthers trailed 44-32. 

The Panthers' best stretch came in the opening minutes of the second half. Myles Belyeu capped off a 9-3 run to bring Davenport within six (47-41) with 17:39 remaining. However, the Timberwolves (3-6, 0-0 G-MAC) responded with a 10-0 rally to take a 16-point lead and held the double-digit advantage for the remainder of the contest.

Leech. Jr. finished with a team-high 20 points, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. Belyeu added 11 points while grabbing a season-high nine rebounds. Matas Deksnys drained a pair of three-pointers, finishing with eight points and three rebounds.

The Panthers will open GLIAC play against crosstown rival Grand Valley State on Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse in Allendale, Mich.
