DAVENPORT, Fla. - The script was flipped on Tuesday as the baseball team claimed a 2-1 win over Gannon. A day after a walk-off home run surprised the Panthers at No. 4 Tampa in a 2-1 loss, it was a go-ahead home run by
Khale Showers in the sixth inning that gave Davenport a much-needed win over the Golden Knights.
Pitching was also marquee as
Isaac Van Dyke made a statement to join the regular starting rotation with seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed five hits and more importantly no walks with a career-high eight strikeouts.
Logan Bursick-Harrington picked up his first career save going the final two innings and striking out three.Â
Gannon scored their run in the top of the first inning as Ian Hess had a two-out RBI single to right center. Van Dyke got out of a jam in the second inning as he stranded the bases loaded with a pop-up off the bat of Brendan Koroly. The Panthers just could not get anything going against Gannon starter Jake Visha through the first five innings. Visha would finish with five strikeouts and four hits allowed in six innings of work.
Davenport got their offense in the sixth inning as
Gaetano Vallone singled with one out and then Showers blasted his second home run of the season with two outs. Bursick-Harrington closed out the game by retiring all six batters he faced.
The team will travel to Daytona Beach for a 6:00 PM game tomorrow against Embry-Riddle who is 9-5 overall this season.
