The men's ACHA Division I hockey team needed a pair of wins in the worst way and managed to get them this weekend against Eastern Michigan. The Panthers (4-22) took down the Eagles 10-4 on Friday in Ann Arbor and came back home on Saturday for a 4-0 shutout at Patterson Ice Center.
Davenport erupted for a season-high 10 goals on Friday and did so on 40 shots on net. It didn't take the team long to pounce on the Eagles as
Robert McLaughlin scored 2:13 into the contest from
Ryan Blackburn and
Austin Melone. Just 1:26 later it was
Sebastien Doucet netting his fifth goal of the season also from Blackburn. Melone made it a 3-0 start at 4:30 with an assist from
Keelan Saworski. Melone scored his first goal of the season as well.
Noah Bradburn bookended power play goals to end the first and start the second to give DU a 5-1 advantage. He scored at 17:25 of the first from
Brendan Bauer and Blackburn and again at 3:27 of the second with helpers from Bauer and
Peter Stojcevski. McLaughlin lit the lamp for the second time at 5:47 from Doucet and the rout was on. Nikolas Moody scored back-to-back goals for EMU at 12:36 on the power play and 15:43. Saworski banged home his eighth goal of the season at 16:08 to conclude the second period scoring with assists from McLaughlin and Doucet.
Davenport finished with three more goals in the third period.
Kristers Klavins put home his 10th goal of the season at 1:15 from
Dallas Hainley and McLaughlin. Bradburn earned a hat trick at 5:35 from Blackburn and Klavins. Saworski scored his second of the game at 11:20 from McLaughlin and Doucet. McLaughlin finished with five points accounting for two goals and three assists. Blackburn finished with four assists to lead the team. Doucet also had a four-point night with a goal and three assists.
Sean Andrus got the win in net making 19 saves.
Nathan Gauthier pitched a shutout on Saturday in net for Davenport and stopped all 18 shots headed his way. He stopped four in the first, eight in the second, and six in the third period. The scoring wasn't as prevalent in this one as four different Panthers put the biscuit in the basket. McLaughlin continued his stellar weekend with a goal at 4:18 of the first from Saworski and Doucet.
Tyler Majewski then scored his first goal of the season at 9:33 unassisted for a 2-0 lead.
Blackburn advanced the lead to 3-0 at 18:34 of the second period from Klavins and Bradburn.
Jacob Demeter finished the scoring at 9:57 of the third period on the power play from Klavins and Melone. Eastern Michigan went 0-for-4 on the man advantage compared to 1-for-3 by the Panthers.
