GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's tennis played at home in the first conference match of the season on Saturday. The Panthers (10-6) faced the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State and defeated them 4-1 for their second straight win over SVSU.

The Panthers swept the doubles and claimed the early important point. For the two doubles matchup, it wasÂ
Skye Vandeleur and
Hermon Mikael who earned a convincing 6-1 win over Elizabeth Stuart and Irene Barreiro. At the one doubles position,Â
Amy Bloch and
Willemien Coetzee acquired a pleasing 7-5 win over Adriana Barrio and Tara Erler.
Louise Hosking and
Isabella Carofano fought hard at three doubles to earn the 7-6 (7-5) win over Amelia Dickson and Johanna Michahelles.

Even though the women earned the doubles point, the Cardinals showed grit as they threw the first punches in singles. Starting with one singles, Bloch was simply outplayed in a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to Barrio. Carofano at five singles earned a comfortable 6-1, 6-4 win over Calli Sokolowski to give the Panthers their second point. Hosking at six singles sprinted to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Stuart. The clinching point for the Panthers came at three singles. Vandeleur won eleven games in a row in the second and third set combined for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 comeback win over Michahelles. The match was decided, however, the Panthers had two unfinished matches at two and four singles. Coetzee was leading at two singles (6-4, 3-6, 5-3) and Mikael was trailing at four singles (6-3, 4-6, 3-5).
