TAMPA, Fla. - The Lady Panthers traveled down to Tampa on April 7-8 to compete in the University Women's Open Bracket in the Tropical Seven's Tournament. Although this weekend was not technically towards the official season, it prepares the team for what's coming at nationals by playing likely competition beforehand. Davenport wiped out all of their competition this weekend with a five-game win streak and flew the trophy back to display on campus. 7's is a specific type of rugby that focuses more on speed and endurance with only seven minute halves. It's not an easy transition to make from 15's, but these women seem to transition flawlessly every year. Down below are the scores for each individual game from this weekend.
Game 1: Davenport v. Durham College (26-12) WIN
Game 2: Davenport v. Coastal Carolina University (50-7) WIN
Game 3: Davenport v. Clemson University (31-0) WIN
Game 4: Davenport v. Iowa University (29-17) WIN
Game 5: Davenport v. Dartmouth College (31-7) WIN

Q: How do you feel the team did this weekend?
A: "Oh boy, it was probably one of the best team performances we have played all year! Each team we played presented us with challenging match ups, but our players adjusted and executed well. Ashley Cowdrey and Aubrey Crist controlled play throughout the tournament with Kyla Rimple delivering crushing blows on defense and solid plays offensively. The combination of Jasmine Peralta-Hernandez and Grace Gohl provided speed out wide which resulted in long runs and tries".
On May 5-7, the Davenport Women's Rugby team heads to Houston, Texas to compete for the national championship for the 7's season. More updates will be posted on the Davenport Website as we get closer to the event.
