HOUSTON, Texas - Davenport women's rugby received ninth in the nation due to both wins against Grand Canyon and Sacred Heart on Sunday, May 7 at Premier 7s Nationals. Grand Canyon University started off weak, where the Panthers were able to receive the upper hand early. First try was scored by Ashley Cowdrey with the helping hand from Aubrey Crist. With continued pressure it allowed Davenport to rely on Grand Canyon's mistakes. More tries were scored including one from Abbi Kowalczk, leaving the final score at 35-5. The next game was against Sacred Heart with tries from Jasmine Hernandez Peralta, Cowdrey, Valencia Goldsmith, and Kowalczk. The final score for the Sacred Heart game was 24-7. They came out to the field today and chose to play their game the way they have learned all season. Moving the ball wide, capitalizing every chance they got, and just playing good clean rugby.

The Davenport women's rugby team has wrapped up their 7's season. After a couple months break they will begin preparations for their next 15's season.
