Panthers rout Adrian College 86-0 on the road

ADRIAN, Mich. - In their first match of the season, the Davenport University women's rugby team showcased their dominance by trouncing the Adrian College Bulldogs with a score of 86-0 on the road. Even with a roster consisting of predominantly underclassmen, the victory was not only a testament to their skill and determination but also highlighted the team's bright future after finishing ninth overall in last season's national tournament. From the opening whistle, it was evident that Davenport had come prepared to make a statement. Their defense was an impenetrable fortress, only allowing the Bulldogs 21 minutes of offense in the 80-minute match. This defensive prowess frustrated their opponents, leading to two yellow card infractions on the Bulldogs that resulted in two penalty tries for the Panthers. The star power of the night belonged to the quartet of freshman talents: Abby Zurek, Jean Gaines, Lionala Mayorga, and Leilani Lepe. Mayorgas speed and agility left the Bulldogs struggling to keep up as Zurek's powerful rucks were a sight to behold with Lepe's smooth ball handling proving to be instrumental in securing points for the team. Charlotte Dauser and Rachel Wilkie were defensive leaders on the pitch, dishing out big tackles and forcing multiple turnovers by the Bulldogs.
