Panthers Dominate Cardinals in Home Sweep

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Emmy Webb registered a season-high 13 kills while swinging at a staggering .765 clip (season-high) to lead the Davenport women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday evening at the DU Student Center. Defensively the graduate also tallied a season-high five blocks in the win for the Panthers (7-8, 4-3 GLIAC).

As a team, DU hit .354 with 46 kills, six aces, five blocks, and 43 assists in the sweep. The Panthers moved to 3-1 in home matches, only dropping five sets.

Holding a three-point lead (18-15) in the first set, the Panthers put together a 4-1 rally, which was capped off by a Webb kill off an assist from Nicole Odeen. Davenport finished the match taking three of the final four points, winning the set 25-18 on an attack error by the Cardinals (2-13, 0-7 GLIAC). DU led the entire first set; however, SVSU tied the score up on three separate occasions.

Back-to-back kills by Webb to start the second set helped propel the Panthers to a 5-0 advantage. SVSU did pull back within one point behind a 4-0 rally. However, DU went on a massive 11-2 run to give itself a double-digit lead (20-10). Webb had three kills during that span, while Abby Alan capped it off with the final two kills to conclude the rally. Lindsay Taylor recorded the final two Davenport points, defeating SVSU 25-17 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Davenport dominated the third and final set of the match. The Panthers went on an impressive 14-2 run to take a commanding 21-9 lead over the Cardinals. The set concluded with a 3-0 rally by DU, with Kaitlin Jordan delivering the final blow with a kill from Odeen.

Odeen finished the match with a season-high in assists for the second consecutive match, as she dished out 40 in the win for Davenport.
