Panthers Downed by #14 Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University men's basketball team was defeated by No. 14 Ferris State on Thursday evening, falling 90-61 at Jim Wink Arena.

It was a low-scoring start to the game, as the Panthers (5-9, 1-4 GLIAC) held a 5-4 advantage three minutes into the contest following a three-pointer by Marcedus Leech Jr. The redshirt junior guard hit his second shot from deep four minutes later to set the score at 12-10 in favor of the Bulldogs (14-3, 4-2 GLIAC).

Myles Belyeu made a layup to spur a 6-0 run with 3:49 remaining in the first half, trimming the Panthers deficit to five (33-28). However, FSU closed out the half with a 7-0 run over the final 2:53, taking a 13-point advantage into the break.

Ferris State carried that momentum into the second half, not allowing its lead to fall below double-digits for the entire second half.

Leech Jr. led the Panthers with 16 points, two assists and two rebounds. Belyeu added seven points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals, while Jaden Terrell tallied eight points and three rebounds. James Felton chipped in with nine points and six boards for Davenport.
