Tucker Nets New Career-High in Loss to Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Jovan Tucker had his best performance as a Panther, setting career-highs in points (14), assists (five) and field goals (five) as the Davenport University men's basketball team fell to Lake Superior State 73-61 on Saturday afternoon.

Six minutes into the game, James Felton made a layup which set in motion a 9-0 DU run, eclipsing 2:24 and giving the Panthers (5-10, 1-5 GLIAC) a three-point advantage (15-12). Davenport took a one-point lead following a steal and fast break layup by Jeff Carrier with 5:35 remaining in the half.

However, the Lakers (12-5, 4-3 GLIAC) answered with a blistering 15-0 run and took a 40-28 lead into the break.

Tucker drained a three, followed by a layup on the following possession to trim the deficit to seven (42-35) with just under 18 minutes left in the ball game. Another shot from deep by Tucker spurred a quick 7-0 DU run and trailed by three points midway through the second half.

LSSU scored seven consecutive points and held off Davenport every time it looked like they had a chance to regain the lead.

Myles Belyeu poured in 12 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out three assists for the Panthers. The 6-4 guard has now recorded two double-doubles this season and scored in double-figures in four of the team's previous five games.

Carrier added 10 points, three assists and two rebounds, while Marcedus Leech Jr. chipped in with nine points and four rebounds for Davenport. Matas Deksnys dropped in eight points off the bench for the Panthers.
